My Choice Poems

Pin Lady Limerick
There was a Young Lady whose chin,
Resembled the point of a pin;
So she had it made sharp,
And purchased a harp,
And played several tunes with her chin.

Imagery Poem

An eager child
Reaching hands out
to grasp the sun
thirsty to taste
the lovely morning dew
Evergrowing, swaying, whispering
Among the dark, cool shadows
Of fellow companions
Old chums
From long ago.
Brilliantly
Like a spark ignited,
A burst of luminance
Fills the empty air
With a glorious scent
A miracle to behold,
Like long lost gems from the sea
Adding a single tile
To the endless mosaic of life
A flower

The Storm

The freshening breeze begins its discordant symphony!
First only a susuruss in the quivering trees,
Softly, quite softly, disturbing no-one,
But strengthening until it whines through the cracks
Like a chorus of violins!
The flutes and trumpets join the strings
As the keening wind stirs up the leaves and twigs,
And makes the doors and windows shake!
The horns join in, their reverberating energy at gale force
And the drums thunder their parts.
Now the Cymbals crash and flash in their lightning spotlight,
While the rain beats down on the roof
Like rattling kettle drums.
Soon the blaring of the horns subsides;
The stridence of the trumpets and flutes diminishes
And the rattle of the drums slows to a
Tap, Tap, Tap-
Drip, Drip, Drip-
The musicians set aside their instruments
As the storm abates,
Leaving the stage once more
In Peace
And tranquillity.

Daddy's Little Girl

Although she lives miles away
Her dad thinks of her each day
Remembering how she first appeared
During a raging winter blizzard
With her deep brown eyes and curly hair
That through her formative years
Punctuated the depth of her beauty
And mirrored her entire being
Making her a Father's Joy.

But now she is all grown up
And a handsome knight has won her hand
Bringing a good life well within their reach
As they carefully dream and plan
And though we live coasts apart
I want her to know
There is a special place within my heart
Reserved for her
Where her presence will be forever felt
